Mrs. Roth to the principal’s office, please.

Everyone has seen “The Blind Side,” right?  If you haven’t, then what’s your problem?

Do you remember the part where Michael calls Leanne “Mrs. Tuohy” and she says, “You can call me Leanne or Mama, but don’t call me Mrs. Tuohy.  When I hear Mrs. Tuohy I look over my shoulder for my mother-in-law.”

When we saw the movie, Shawn looked at me and chuckled during that part because he knows I hate being called “Mrs. Roth.”

It was only within the last year and a half when Alivia started elementary school that I became “Mrs. Roth.”  I’m not sure why, but it never occurred to me that my children’s friends would call me this.

It’s not just the kids either.  It’s the teachers, and the principal!  Now, I know the principal because I’m on the Home & School Board/Committee, so can’t he at least call me by my first name?

It’s not that I have anything against my husband’s last name, it’s just that it isn’t mine.  It’s a good last name for him, and even for my kids, but just not for me.  When we got married, I didn’t even want to change my last name, but when I told Shawn this he acted like I was cutting off his left nut.  Like I said, it’s nothing personal, and I wasn’t trying to make any sort of statement, but my old last name was just…better.

My maiden name was Moon.  Now, is that a totally bad ass last name, or what?  My sister-in-law’s name is Mary, so now her name is Mary Moon, awesome!  She even has a song about her!

As a side note, when they got married, the DJ did not even play this song!  He didn’t even have it with him!  When I called him out on it (which you know I did), he said he didn’t even make the connection until he was there at the reception, and then he laughed.  Hardy, har, har.  Thanks for nothing.

So, anyway.  Do I have to accept this whole “Mrs. Roth” thing, or what?  Today, when I was at Alivia’s school I may or may not have told the principal to stop calling me Mrs. Roth.  From what I remember, it may have come out rude.  I think he was asking for it though.  He walked by me in the office and said “Hello Mrs. Roth!  How are you?!”  I looked up and smiled.  Then he said, “That’s all I get?”  To which I replied, “I don’t like being called Mrs. Roth.”

I really couldn’t believe it even came out of my mouth.  It was at that point, that I was incredibly thankful the principal wasn’t a nun anymore.

haha! first, LOVE that movie! second, i don't like my married name all that much either .my maiden name was shumaker, and dorky as it was, i loved it. plus, douglas never comes out for the minis. it's usually duhhhhg-liss. i changed my name legally but totally kept my personalized car tags from before marriage. i will forever and always be known as J-SHU. love it, friend!

I feel you! I feel to young to be a Mrs. but that is what all my kids have to call me at school. I also don't like calling the parents Mrs. because it must be awkward for them. I have a rule: tell me to call you by your first name once and I am going to call you by your first name!

I don't know if it's just for us Moon's, or if it's like this for everyone? I mean, Moon is a totally bad ass name! Three years into marriage (almost) and I am still grieving the loss of the name, hence the moon tattoo I got.

I was always so proud of being a Moon, and I kind of wonder if I miss the name more because of how much I loved Grandma?

I'm glad that Amity took the name though, because her name is rad.

yup, I used the word rad.

Haha! Unfortunately, you may not be able to really avoid this. It IS your last name now and people will definitely refer to you buy it. BUT if you are close enough to the person I would say...even pretend your joking )but not really) "ohh please" call me by my first name!" Unfortunately, as a teacher there is no running from the last name. When I used to teach PreK at my old school the kids called me by my first name, in a public school that practically forbidden! I don't know how much i'll like changing my name if I get married either! I think that MOON for a last name is totally 100% awesome...i dont know how you ever gave that up! Its adorable!

I loved that part of the movie! And when he said, " I don't like to be called Big Mike." So sweet.
Have a great day!

I kept my maiden name and hyphynated which has become a huge issue. Mostly at the bank, doctors office, all places where you have to check in or they keep records. Nobody seems to have a way to deal with someone with two last names. Its annoying. But, I couldn't give up my name either. Mark was cool with it and another reason I love him so much. Our business name is Harmon Inc and I wanted to keep the Harmon in my name for professional reasons but looking back at it I would have just kept the Harmon and not taken the Ramsey part because it has been a problem. I feel like we change so much as wives anyway and I am the same person as i was as a Harmon so why change? Plus then all the changes you have to make on your stationary, banks, credit cards, passport, blah blah blah is annoying as hell. I get the whole tradition thing but I'm over it.

It was weird when I became a teacher to be called Ms. and then Mrs. and then a new last name. But, you can't really tell 6 year olds to call you Laura :)

Now...I'm Frau Holmelin..yuck!

I completely agree with you.

I like my new last name because it is *slightly* easier to spell & pronounce than my maiden name.

Maiden name= Schoen Pronounced Shane (I know, what a nightmare!)

My husband's name: deClouet Pronounced de-cloo-it. (Like I said, it's only slightly easier.)

I say you hit the jackpot twice. Moon and Roth? That's way to easy!

I am squigged out to be call Mrs deClouet though. Mostly because I pride myself on being the complete opposite of my mother in law and this detail bridges the gap. Blah!
