Another edition of ICMTSU courtesy of Alivia!

For future reference ICMTSU = “I Can’t Make This Shit Up”

Before we begin, does anyone have a guess on how long it was before I got a call from the girl’s school?  You know, a call like “Your daughter flew off a swing and landed on a patch of ice” or “Your daughter’s stomach itches” or the best one of all time “Your daughter lost her earring and she thinks it went up her nose.”

Seriously, any guesses?  A day?  A week?  A minute?

The answer is:  one day.  Yes, one day people.  I received my very first phone call on the second day of school.  It was a doozy too.  To start, let’s go back to this picture I posted on Tuesday:

A few of you asked about Alivia’s shoes in the comments on that post, which was cracking me up, because those shoes are the subject of this post.  So, for those of you who wanted to know about them…they are actually from the Disney store, but we got them a year ago.  Here is a close-up picture of the shoes for Yankee Girl (who begged me for this picture):

They are definitely cute shoes!  Like I said, we bought the shoes last year, but because they are quite wide, they were too big all year.  Well, last Tuesday on the first day of school, Alivia dug these shoes out from who-knows-where and proclaimed that she was wearing them.  Shawn told her “No” because he thought they were too big.  On the second day of school, she again announced she was wearing them and after trying them on she declared them to be “perfect!”  After I looked at them, I told her No Way, because I could see that now they were too small.

Of course, she wouldn’t take No for an answer, and she went on and on saying that they fit, they were perfect, and blah blah blah.  So, finally I said “Fine.  You may wear the shoes, but I don’t want to hear one single complaint about how they hurt your feet!”  I knew they would be too small, but she would learn a lesson, and by the end of the day victory would be mine.  Right?  Wrong.

So, there I was in Yoga Strength class on Wednesday morning minding my own downward dog, when I see the green light start flashing on my phone.  Hmmm.  What could this mean?  I scooted my down dog over to my phone to check it out.  “Missed Call” and “New Voicemail” it read.  I didn’t recognize the number right away, but something about it just reeked of Danger!  I stupidly decided to leave class early, just in case it was a true emergency.  The emergency sounded a little something like this:

“Hi Tami, this is Colleen (school secretary).  I was calling because Sarah (Alivia’s teacher) said Alivia was complaining her shoes are too small and they’re hurting her feet.  We were wondering if you could bring her another pair?”

Bahahahahaha!!  Let me think about that.  Can I bring her another pair of shoes?  Um, no.  No, no, and no.  Whatever happened to the “Do Not Call List?”  I thought I was supposed to be on that list!

Good for you standing your ground. I have also dealt with the "THEY FIT! They TOTALLY fit!" shoe argument one too many times.

Ha! Katelyn did that last year and I treated it the exact same way. She wouldn't listen, so she got stuck wearing them all day long and I bet she'll never do that again! :)

Ha Love it! Glad you didn't take her a new pair...a little blister or 2 will help the fact that "mommy was right!"

Ohh, this is so funny! Poor girl, should have listened to her momma!! They are cute shoes, so I can't blame her ;)

LOL! Did that turn into "What? Who called? Really? Ohhhhh, that must have been that missed call from that number I didn't recognize. Hmmm, sorry about your luck! So, which shoes should you wear tomorrow?"

You crack me up. I think you need to have another talk with that secretary about the Do Not Call list ;-)

OHHH someone is going to have to learn some phrases such as "no pain no gain" and "beauty if pain!"

I think our daughters are one in the same.

I would have done the exact same thing. So did she admit you were right when she got home?

Well played Mama! There would be NO way on God's green earth that I would have brought my child a change of shoes in that situation! Live and learn Alivia!

A couple blisters on the feets aren't going to kill a kid....good for standing your ground.

She is well on her way to being a grown woman! I mean, don't we all wear uncomfortable shoes at some point simply for the sake of looking good?

By the way, I LOVE those shoes and would squeeze my feet into them too if I had a pair that was too small! Thanks for the close up pic!

So glad that you didn't drive over there with new shoes. I taught middle school for five years, and I was continually blown away with what the kids could coerce their parents to do.

Love it!!! NExt time, don't you leave that class until you've received 3 missed calls in the same class! Then you'll know it's a true emergency!

Oh Alivia! You are just going to have to learn.

At least there was nothing stuck up her nose Tami!

BTW, she does look sassy in the whole uniform/shoes get-up. Too cute;)

Oh she is a riot. I swear, you might have the most adorably entertaining kids of anyone I know...

Awesome! I'm assuming you made sure they knew your name was on the "do not call list" when they called?

I also love love the title of this blog and look forward to more ICMTSU posts in the future!

Ah...thank you for reminding me about the earring up the nose...probably my most favorite post ever!

Too bad they are too small -- so cute!

This is too funny. You should take wagers on how many calls you get this year!!!!!

She is a true girl, though, squeezing her feet into cute shoes :-)

Emily is just like your girl. It is frustrating, I know. I got a call once because she opened her desk too hard and hit her head. she was in the 3rd grade. then a week later she opened the bathroom door into her head!

AHHHH! Oh my goodness! That is hysterical! Did you end up bringing her new shoes? What did she say when she got home? I love it. Heck... maybe she has to learn the price of beauty at her young age. Sometimes pain is beauty. Lol :)

Oh, man. You have the best kids ever!! I hope Khloe doesn't pull any of that shinnanigans when she gets older ;-) LOL

I have done that in my 30's, LOL!

Cute story and wow, back in the day, the school wouldn't have called for that reason!

HAHAHA!! Love the shoes, feel a little sorry for her little feet, but think it's hilarious you didn't bring her new ones. You horrible Mom! haha Like I say to my kids - "that'll learn ya!"

OMW, this sounds like something my mom did to me, and BELIEVE ME, I learned my lesson! Good for you!

That girl is brave, huh? I mean, I honestly thought that she would have been too scared to have her teacher call knowing that you would not be happy with her.

What was conversation like on the way home from school? I'm very curious.

Way to stand your ground! I'm pretty wimpy, so I would have given in.

I don't blame her. Those shoes are pretty cute.
