What’s the secret?

6a00e398c9b397000400e398d593d50005-500pi

A few months ago I posted about a situation at the Gap where they didn’t have my size, and the lady told me there were no smaller sizes (like in the whole wide world). I later found the item online, and ordered it in the next smaller size, which ended up being a 00. I am definitely not a 00, I am more likely a 2. But whatever, if the skirt fits, wear it! (It really was a skirt, ha!)

But, my question is this…why can’t stores just size their clothes according to your actual size? Why in an effort to make people feel better about themselves did they change the sizing of clothes? A doctor that I work with once joked that his wife was a size 2 when they got married 25 years ago and she’s still a size 2, but only because what used to be a size 6 is now a size 2!

Ok, onto Victoria’s Secret. Is it possible that they are doing this too? With your boob size? Come on now, if you’re an A cup, you have to know. You don’t just go into Victoria’s Secret one day and suddenly you’re a B cup, and you believe it. Your boobs didn’t grow, and you know it.

Just after Christmas I went to Victoria’s Secret to get some new bras. I picked my size up off the shelf, tried them on, and every single one of them looked like this:

victorias%20secretI was completely busting out of the top of every single bra, no matter what the cup fit was! After the 3rd bra, I turned the call light on for the sales woman to help me. She (unhappily) went and got the next bigger cup size, but it was the same thing. When I showed her the “situation” she said, “I actually think that’s a pretty good fit.” What? Yeah, a pretty good fit for a hooker.

I stupidly ended up buying 2, to see if I felt any different about them when I got them home. I still felt like a prostitute, but what do you know? Shawn thought they were a good fit too!

So, I ended up taking them back, and ordering the same exact bras I had before from Victoria’s Secret online since they didn’t have them in the store. Well, they came today. And, it’s the same thing. Cleavage, and lots of it. I decided to keep them anyway, just in case I decide to make a career change.

I agree... stores are adjusting their sizes to make women feel good. I had the same experience when buying a bra from VS... I got my cup A then it is just like how that model wore it. So I tried the B, still the same output. No way am I a C... that's too hilarious. But I want to think that I am a C just for psychological purposes.

The secret is, don't go to Victoria's Secret! I used to try and go there, and they all swore up and down they could find a size for me. I wear a 28 DD, sad but true. One sales girl there once told me a 34 C should work out fine...huh?

The real secret is go to a specialty bra shop where the people know what they are doing. Sure you might spend $80/bra but your boobs end up look normal!

I hate going into VS these days. I don't feel like the associates know what they are talking about at all!

So funny you say that b/c I had a similar experience with them a couple weeks ago. I was popping out of every bra. Their bras used to fit well and make your boobs look good. Now...I'm not sure what they did different but it's not working.

Dude. I was so excited to get "normal" bras after I am done being pregnant because these things I have now are a hot mess but there is really no use in spending a ton of money on new bras if they don't fit! I did try VS before I got pregnant and had the same problem a few months ago. It looked like a freaky cantaloupe in the bra but then pulled them down or something. And the salesgirls. Yikes. I think they tell everyone a 34C will fit because they have no idea what they are doing. I will take Hillary's advice and go to a specialty store. At least they might help me make these things look good again?

I would also like to vote for universal sizing. I want to be the same size at Banana Republic as I am at Gap, etc.

First off: The girls who work at the VS in the town I live in are such bitches that I will only purchase items online. No joke. They are all rude and so unhelpful!

Seriously, you work at VS, chick. Get over yourself.

And secondly, I first became aware of women's funky sizes when I was pregnant......

It's true, our sizes are completely ridiculous and only give us a complex!

Reading this post made me realize just how long it has been since I've purchased a new bra. Nursing bras don't count.
